Specialty Coffee

For coffee to be deemed “Specialty,” highly trained Q-Graders must score coffee within 80-100 points using the Specialty Coffee Association’s grading scale. Here’s the break down:

80 to 84.99 is “Very good”

85 to 89.99 are considered “Excellent”

90 to 100 points are graded “Outstanding”

Wow and Flutter Coffees fall within the 80-85 range, depending on what coffee is seasonally available and what we need for matching our published flavor notes.

About Us

Wow and Flutter is a small outfit in Ann Arbor Michigan led by a former special ed teacher turned coffee roaster. We hope our intentions are clear: introduce specialty coffee and tea in a fun and approachable way. We draw inspiration from travel, cycling, music, and the coffee farmers that pick each coffee cherry individually, seeking ripe cherries in a mostly unripe bunch . What is “Wow and Flutter?”

Are you old enough to remember how your 80’s cassette player sounded when it slowly ran out of batteries? Well, Wow and Flutter measures that variation in speed; those sad, warped, distorted sounds. This applies to record players, too. “Wow” is a slow change in speed. “Flutter” measures a rapid change.  Oh yes, there’s plenty more on this topic on the internet. The best way to research Wow and Flutter is to drink it while doing it. What?
